Chef Liziwe Matloha shares her cheffing and catering skills with stokvels

Last month, eKasi Traders Network treated 24 subscribers and stokvel members to a full day, hands-on cooking class and catering workshop courtesy of Chef Liziwe and Spekko Rice, at The Bread Box Bakery & Studio in Halfway Gardens, Midrand. Lots of fun, laughter, preparation of amazing dishes and learning was had! Our chefs-in-training walked away with Spekko Rice, aprons and various other goodies to recreate their Spekko Rice cooking experience at home. Thank you Chef Liziwe and Spekko Rice for a wonderful culinary experience!

About Chef Liziwe

TV chef, food editor and caterers’ mentor, Chef liziwe Matloha got her big break into the cooking scene when she became DRUM Magazine’s First Food Ambassador in June 2020.

Coming from a large family in Potchefstroom where her father was a priest, Liziwe first studied towards a diploma in Human Resources, then after she got married, got a diploma in Media Studies.

Liziwe relays: “I have been cooking all my life, for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest cooking memories are of me, at the age of 13, cooking a full seven colours meal, plus making my grandma’s favourite steamed ginger pudding.”

“Through all my ups and downs, cooking was my solace, it gave me such peace and joy, and I became really good at it. During my working period cooking became my part time hustle. I would do catering for friends and family for free but as it got popular and demanding I started charging a fee and soon this turned it into a small side hustle”.

Working in marketing and advertising, she finally “got serious” when she heard about the aunt of a colleague who staged cooking classes. This led to a diploma from the Capsicum Culinary College. Making money from catering and by baking biscuits and cakes, she built a kitchen studio in her backyard and started cooking classes.

Since then, Chef Liziwe has published a cookbook, worked as food writer for magazines such as True Love, Bona, DRUM and MyKitchen, and then became the resident chef on Morning Live. This led to working as brand ambassador for Spekko Rice – amongst other things,

Today, Chef Liziwe stars in Ready Steady Cook on SABC and she is working on her 2nd cookbook.
