Super Sun launches its Super Together campaign at the Thandanani Drop Inn Centre

Super Sun launched its “Super Together” purpose-led campaign at the Thandanani Drop Inn Centre in Mamelodi, Pretoria. The initiative, a partnership with retailer Big Save, will see a portion of every Super Sun product purchased at any of Big Save’s five stores go directly towards supporting Thandanani and its beneficiaries. The campaign, which runs until March 2026, celebrates the collective power of community upliftment and honours the everyday heroes that make this possible. Women and mothers were specially acknowledged at the launch, highlighting their critical role in shaping collective destinies and futures.

Launched during Women’s Month, the Super Sun Super Together initiative recognises that every small act of support can have a transformative impact when shared collectively. “This campaign turns everyday purchases into powerful acts of generosity,” explains Phumzile Nhlapo, Premier Senior Brand Manager: Maize, Breakfast and Pasta. “With every bag of Super Sun maize meal bought at one of Big Save’s five stores, customers will be directly supporting the vital work done by Thandanani – with a percentage of the product purchase allocated to the NPO. This is how we become ‘super together’.”

Rooted in purpose, the Super Sun Super Together campaign is a purpose led initiative. “This makes it different to a CSI campaign,” she adds. “The donation accumulated through the initiative will be made directly by Premier to Thandanani Drop Inn Centre as part of our commitment to support their remarkable work, and help to build and grow this community.”

One of South Africa’s trusted staples, Super Sun has long been a brand synonymous with nourishing body and minds; supporting vitality. “Super Sun has always brought the goodness of the African sun into homes and communities. Our brand purpose speaks to uplifting women as care-givers, helping mothers support their families to realise their potential and thrive. Through the Super Together campaign, we’re making it possible for our consumers to be part of something greater, where each purchase becomes an intentional contribution to positive change.”

The Super Sun team worked closely with the leadership of Big Save to identify a registered charity that was making a meaningful and lasting difference in the community.

“It was important to us that the impact of this campaign be felt directly at community level,” says Dylan Jardim, Big Save: Head of Marketing. “Thandanani Drop Inn Centre’s work is impact driven and led. Each day this dynamic young team restores dignity and creates pathways to empowerment, especially for women and young people. As Big Save, their vision perfectly mirrors our brand values, and we are honoured to walk this journey with them.”

Located in Mamelodi, Pretoria, Thandanani has become a vital lifeline for the most vulnerable in the area, particularly women and children. The centre provides psychosocial support, feeding programmes, education and crisis intervention services. It also champions skills development and assists child-headed households.

“This partnership is deeply humbling for us,” says Thabo Kgotsi, co-founder of the Centre. “It’s a powerful validation of the work we do. More than that, it’s a commitment to the lives and futures of the people we serve, particularly our women and youth. Through this support, we will be able to invest further in our centre and support our community.”

Jardim says the initiative has already resonated with their customers: “At Big Save, we’ve always believed in growing alongside our communities. Yes, we’re a retailer, but we are also neighbours and partners. This campaign is about more than giving – it’s about walking alongside Thandanani to build brighter futures. In this way, we’ll be paying tribute to the strength, love and resilience of women and mothers in this community in particular.”

In closing, Nhlapo encouraged local community members to support the campaign: “Every time you purchase Super Sun at Big Save, you’re planting seeds of hope. It’s a way to make your everyday choice count: to support mothers, back your own community and ensure that the beneficiaries of Thandanani rise together. Because when we support women, we nourish families; and when we nourish families, we grow nations. Let’s continue being Super Together.”
